The Early Years

The history of Peugeot begins in 1810, when brothers Jean-Pierre and Jean-Frédéric Peugeot founded a steel foundry in the town of Valentigney, France. The company initially produced tools, springs, and other metal products, but in 1882, it began manufacturing bicycles. In 1889, Peugeot produced its first automobile, the Type 1. The Type 1 was a three-wheeled vehicle powered by a steam engine, and it was not a commercial success. However, in 1891, Peugeot introduced the Type 2, a four-wheeled vehicle powered by a gasoline engine. The Type 2 was a success, and it helped to establish Peugeot as a leading manufacturer of automobiles.

The Post-World War II Era

In 1955, Peugeot introduced the 403, a larger, more luxurious car that was also a success. In 1965, Peugeot introduced the 504, a mid-size car that was a success in both France and other European countries. The 504 was also a popular choice for export to Africa and other developing countries.

The Modern Era

In the modern era, Peugeot has continued to grow and expand its product line. In 1974, the company introduced the 604, its first luxury sedan. In 1983, Peugeot introduced the 205, a small, economical car that was a success in France and other European countries. In 1995, Peugeot introduced the 406, a mid-size car that was a success in France and other European countries. In 2008, Peugeot introduced the 508, a mid-size sedan that was a success in France and other European countries.
