One Man, Thirty Thousand Dogs, and a Million Miles on the Last Hope Highway
In the desolate stretches of the American West, where the wind howls through the sagebrush and the only signs of life are the occasional tumbleweed and abandoned homestead, there is a man on a mission.

Chad Stavely is a soft-spoken, unassuming man with a heart of gold. For the past 20 years, he has dedicated his life to rescuing abandoned dogs and driving them to safety on the Last Hope Highway.
The Last Hope Highway is a network of rural roads that crisscross the western United States, connecting remote shelters and rescue organizations. It is a lifeline for dogs who have been abandoned, neglected, or abused, and who would otherwise have little chance of finding a loving home.
Stavely has driven over a million miles on the Last Hope Highway, rescuing over 30,000 dogs. He has seen it all: dogs that have been left to starve, dogs that have been hit by cars, and dogs that have been abandoned in the middle of nowhere.
But through it all, Stavely has never given up hope. He believes that every dog deserves a chance at a happy life, and he is determined to make that happen.
Stavely's work is not easy. He often drives for days at a time, sleeping in his truck and eating whatever he can find along the way. He has been threatened by angry dog owners, and he has even been arrested for transporting animals without a license.
But Stavely is undeterred. He knows that the dogs he rescues are counting on him, and he is determined to get them to safety.
Along the way, Stavely has made many friends. He has met other rescuers, veterinarians, and animal lovers who share his passion for helping dogs. He has also met countless dogs who have touched his heart.
One of the most memorable dogs Stavely ever rescued was a little black and white terrier named Lucky. Lucky had been abandoned in the desert, and he was so weak and dehydrated that he could barely stand.
Stavely nursed Lucky back to health, and the two of them quickly became inseparable. Lucky became Stavely's constant companion, riding shotgun on all of his rescue missions.
Lucky died a few years ago, but Stavely still thinks about him every day. He knows that Lucky was one of the lucky ones. He was rescued and given a second chance at life.
Stavely's work is far from over. There are still thousands of abandoned dogs in the United States, and he is determined to rescue as many of them as he can.
If you would like to help Stavely continue his work, you can donate to his nonprofit organization, the Last Hope Highway Rescue.
You can also follow Stavely's journey on his Facebook page.
Here are some additional ways you can help:

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of abandoned dogs.
Chad Stavely is a true hero. He is a man who has dedicated his life to helping those who cannot help themselves. He is an inspiration to us all.
